Iran Money Museum was inaugurated in 1997 as Iran’s first specialized and permanent museum of its kind. In Iran Money Museum you review the 2500 years of Iran’s money history from the first coinage till today’s paper money. You learn about the first tools of trade in ancient times as well as when and where the first pieces of engraved metal with impressions that today we call coins, were made.

*In the other section of the money museum you review the Islamic coins from the era of Abbasid, Omavid, Seljukid, Ghaznavid, etc… and also coins since the appearance of Islam in Persia (Iran) and the beginning of the art of engraving on coins.

*Worthy of mention is that in the money museum you see the valuable collection of Iranian paper money from the Qajar era till today. The banknotes remind you of the history and memories and you will find out about the first fake paper money, the smallest coins and the paper money made of gold.

*Furthermore in the Iran money museum you learn about the world’s first coins (600 BC) and first coinage during Achaemenid Darius the king of Persia (Iran). Also in the pre-Islamic coins section there are coins of Sassanid, Seleucid and Parthian dynasties that remind you about ancient history and art.
